New Classic Car Insurance Products

Classic Car Insurance Company Launches New Specialist Policies

The UK's leading online classic car insurance company Car-Insurance.tv has announced the launch of classic car policies designed to offer cheaper cover for women driver insurance and young drivers with age and gender related car insurance schemes.

PRLog (Press Release)- Aug 04, 2009 - Online UK classic car insurance comparison company Car-Insurance.tv ( http://www.car-insurance.tv ) has announced the launch of a range of new products and schemes specifically aimed at young drivers, lady drivers and senior drivers who own classic and collectors cars.

Marketing Director Dave Healey said, "Our online classic car insurance comparison system, is the largest in the UK and is particularly designed to make large premium savings with cheaper premiums for owners of classic and collectors cars."
"We are particularly good at finding you the best cover by your car type make and model, with our car marque insurance schemes, however many of these schemes did not offer tailored cover for women, older and young drivers."

"We recently undertook a survey and comprehensive review of our online customers which has revealed to us that we were missing out on some large segments of the market, in particular classic car insurance covers for young, old and lady drivers. The addition of the new products means we can now provide a much better Internet experience for these groups of people and we can satisfy the buying intentions of more of our customers, which include some large niche segments of the UK car insurance buying population"

Mr Healey added "Our classic car insurance schemes already offered fully comprehensive, all risks policies to young drivers over the age of twenty three. The addition of the new schemes and policies will allow us to offer classic car insurance to drivers aged twenty-one or over.
Many older cheaper cars, which are particularly favoured by this younger age group, are now eligible for classic car insurance cover."

"Our lady and women driver customers will also gain from the introduction of the new classic schemes." Mr Healey stated.
"Statistics have long shown that women drivers make fewer claims than their male counterparts. The survey showed that many of our more expensive performance and sports classic car policy holders were women."
"In order to offer these female drivers the range of covers that are available under standard cover, we have incorporated many classic car insurance schemes and policies that are designed exclusively for women drivers. They offer discounts found on standard covers and a range of benefits including agreed valuations"
"Classic car owners over fifty will also benefit from comparing schemes that offer large discounts for mature drivers with a decent driving history."

More information about all these classic car insurance products can be found on the company's Classic Car Insurance website,

Cheap Classic Car Insurance?

If you own an older motor you may qualify to have it covered under a specialist classic car insurance policy. But what are the cover restrictions and is it cheaper in the long term? Our expert Dave Healey Investigates.....

Cheap Classic Car Insurance Cover
By Dave Healey
Do you own a car over fifteen years old? If you do you may well be entitled to cover it under what is known in the industry as a classic car insurance policy. In the past there were many more restrictions on cover under this type of policy and specialist motor insurance brokers and insurance companies were very particular about the type, age make and models of the cars they wished to cover on their books.

Times have changed and technology has led to many more cars now fitting into a bracket that was once reserved for the glamourous, collector and vintage car owners. It is now possible to obtain both cheap quotes and classic car covers online from many providers including the majority of those famous high street brands, who have realised that nearly fifty percent of the cars on the road now fall within the strict underwriting parameters for classic car policies. Consequently premiums in this market, which were always cheaper than standard cover, have become much more competitive in recent years, with the entry into the market of many of the larger insurance companies.

When searching for the right covers it is wise to get a range of classic car insurance online quotes from various different sources. Not all motor companies are the same, and neither are all classic policy conditions.

When applying for a classic quote you should be aware of the varying limits of cover and restrictions that may be put on driving the vehicle.
For example many of these policies will only allow you very limited road mileage each year, sometimes as little as 3000 miles per annum.
This is fine if you have an expensive collectors car that is garaged throughout the year and only taken out for the odd cruise or rally.
The problems occur much more frequently when non valuable classic cars are insured under this type of policy when they should really be covered under a more embracing standard motor insurance. Unfortunately, restrictive policy conditions often only come to light after an accident and a claim is made, rejected by the insurer and leaves the policyholder feeling missold and abandoned.

If you have decided that a classic car policy is right for your car, then when applying for quotes online always check that the policy is right for you, the owner as well.
Many policies are designed to charge by the lifestyle of the insured and as with all car insurance there is a tendency for cover to be cheaper for older persons and women drivers.
Many companies will not issue classic motor insurance to persons under the age of twenty five, although this is changing as well, and there are some very good providers out there who will cover drivers as young as twenty one.

If the value of the car is not particularly high and the replacement costs of parts and repairs does not warrant a specialist policy, you may well be better advised to seek out quotes from a mainstream insurance company.
They often have additional online discounts and offers which the classic policy providers are not in a position to offer.

As with all car insurance, what may initially appear cheap at policy inception could cause some unpleasant surprises when it comes to making a claim.
Shop around for specialist car insurance and Classic Car Insurance. Compare prices and insurance covers from both major high street brands and the smaller insurance specialists to ensure you not only get a good deal, but get the adequate levels of cover you require for your classic car, as well.

Specialist Car Insurance Schemes Will Save Classic Car Owners a Fortune!

Specialist Car Insurance Schemes Will Save Classic Car Owners a Fortune!

Despite the recession, perhaps because of the recession more and more car drivers are purchasing the classic car or performance motor they have always dreamed of owning and driving when they were younger. It may have been because they could never afford it, or more likely due to other commitments such as having to purchase a sensible family estate car for the wife and three children, that they are now making up for it - big time!

Times have changed and due to the economic crisis and a change in the attitude of a generation, sports cars and classic cars are all the rage with the baby boomers, who can now be seen driving around town in cars they once pushed around as dinky or matchbox toys when they were little boys and girls.

Those big kids who would once maybe invest in shares on the stock exchange are now putting their investments into tangible property, and classic cars and performance motors have become the investment collectors portfolio of choice. Consequently as demand for expensive cars rises, the supply of car insurance responds, and there are now some excellent money saving opportunities on the market that were only available to a privileged few before the advent of online underwriting.

For those of us who have eventually realised our dreams and secured that prized classic car or souped up modified sports car we always wanted, it is important to protect it with a comprehensive policy from an independent insurance specialist.

Specialist car insurance providers will save you money by presenting to you unique cover options, which have been specifically incorporated into the policy wording for your specific vehicle.

These bespoke policy types are known as classic car insurance schemes and are often initially drawn up by an underwriter, in request to a large pool of insurance presented by a classic car club club or society. Each manufacturer will have multiple members clubs and there may be many schemes for a particular car model.

Hence the policy wordings of classic motor and sports car insurance schemes often contain elements that are specific to a particular car make, type and model. These schemes often include additional benefits, such as helplines and approved specialist repairers who are on hand as part of the claims package.

Specialist car insurance schemes also provide cover for high performance, prestige, classic or sports cars in particular, and you could certainly save money by taking out a policy from a scheme associated with your car, rather than standard motor insurance from a insurance comparison supermarket.

If your car is not a regular everyday standard road vehicle, but is special with accessories and modifications, or it is worth over £10000 you may find yourself subjected to higher premiums from the standard motor insurance providers.

Wholesale insurance companies argue that handling claims and arranging specialist parts for replacement and repairs, tend to be much more difficult to arrange and expensive and the result is higher premiums. Many mainstream car comparison insurers do not want to cover you period, so they will try to exclude you and dissuade you by offering highly weighted premium quotes and expensive cover.

Worse still if you are forced to claim, you may even get sent to the wrong type of repair workshop by a standard insurer, when your motor or classic car requires specialist tools at the main dealer or makers garage!

You could be paying much less for your classic cover by switching to a specialist provider of classic car insurance. In certain circumstances, for example where your existing policy provider is charging you for unnecessary elements of cover, or does not really want you as a client as your profile does not match the optimal risk profile for their book of insurance business, you could save hundreds if you switch to a classic scheme. Additionally schemes more frequently than not offer exclusive discounts not found at the mega insurance supermarkets.

The benefits of these schemes are that you buy a product that is totally suitable for your individual situation and designed around your exact personal requirements and your classic or performance car's particular insurance cover needs.

Classic Car Insurance Comes of Age!

Maybe we are all getting older and maybe we are going to suffer some clasic car crisis like the pensions scandal that is about to explode around the world as the baby boomer generation ages.

The fact of the matter is there are more classic cars on the road these days.
Do you remember those awful motors produced by BLMC when it was owned by the Government in the 1970's.

Like me, you may well have been chauffeured around by friend's Dads in those tank top coloured rust buckets when you were a kid.
'Commie Cars' Mr Clarkson calls them.

Yeah OK! they were all pretty ugly, even the Jags and Aston Martins were angular and boxy and painted in two pack mustards and browns. But there were many exceptions to the rule in the UK, for example the classy Triumph Stag and the beautiful Triumph Spitfire.
Many of the long disappeared British Car Marques actually produced some amazing motors during that tacky decade, and consequently they are still sought after today.

Unfortunately, and this is with no disrespect to all those departed members of my family that had to work in the press and paint shops of Ford's, BLMC, Rootes etc during the Seventies - the paint was crap and the engines very unreliable.

Every thing was done by hand in mass lines of organised production that Adam Smith would have been proud of, in those vast hangers the size of six football pitches, the British Car Industry churned out those mosters with the padded settees in the back, in employment scenes not dissimilar to those of industrial Victoriana.

The fact that the cars were awful and didn't last is probably a good thing on reflection, so you can thank my family and others that toiled in those unionised hangers of radicalism that brought down Governments, that most of the cars built then ended up in the ubiquitous and very fast growing Scrappys.

Consequently the volume of classic cars we could have had now from the Seventies, has been mercily spared us!
Depreciation and built in obsolescence was as much a part of the green revolution as the Wombles
This all started to change in the early Mid-Seventies with the arrival on our shores from the Land of the Rising Sun, in the form of the lovely Datsun! (Nissan to you nippers) - cars that actually lasted a bit longer - though the paint technology was just as bad or even worse and gave birth to the ubiquitous estate rustbucket.

The longevity technology wasn't resolved until the Eighties, and thus it is cars from the Eighties that have led to the recent dramatic rise in the demand for classic car insurance.

In response to this demand generated by a surplus of motors from the Eighties that we now see the number of car insurance schemes available today, rising on an almost daily basis to unprecedented levels as underwriters cover more bespoke model policies. The number of specialist car insurers for classic motors is three hundred fold what it was when these cars were first being produced under the Thatcher Regime.

Now if you had to live through the Eighties you either joined in and became a Yuppie uncaring scumbag, made a load of money and drove around in a flash sports car, not giving a flying fart old boy that the country was being ripped to pieces on lie, around you, or......

Or you drove around in a beat up old Commie Car from the Seventies, on third party fire and theft and a dodgy MOT you bought off Eric in the garage down the road, starting riots and calling for revolution.

The Eighties created the largest legacy of classic cars which has led to the current boom in classic car insurance demand. The battle was temporarliy won by champagne swilling, Harry Enfield characters in the Porsche 911 turbo set. This was confirmed with the collapse of Communism in 1989 and the introduction to us all of the lovely Trabant!

So even the bad have given us something good!

Whatever type of classic car you may own from these two notorious decades, why not give Lancaster a call or get a quick quote online from one of over a hundred classic car insurance schemes at Car Insurance TV.

The people who work here are really friendly and are only too happy to answer your questions. They are all petrol heads and products themselves of the Seventies and Eighties and all think they should go on Mastermind answering questions about their own classic car insurance specialisms.

Cheaper Car Insurance if you change your lifestyle

Car Insurers are becoming more savvy, particularly those people who work in the claims department who get to see how car insurance claims arise, and the factors that cause accidents.
Historically it has been difficult to drill down into the claims data and make any statistical sense of accident data, however with the introduction of centralised data and claims databases which can be shared by all car insurers, patterns are beginning to emerge that will inevitably be included in the underwriting side of car insurance, and therefore reflected more in the calculation of quotes and premiums than has been in the past.

In assessing a risk for car insurance, traditionally lifestyle of the applicant has always been assessed using scores applied to the results of various questions asked on a car insurance proposal form, whether online or not. If you look at the question in question you will see that the basis of underwriting a car insurance policy is very broad and not tailiored to the individual risk. You will be assessed on your age, where you live and the type of car you drive. That not very fair is it if you happen to be a good young driver who lives in a high risk area and drives a car rated as being high risk. The premium you pay will be determined by the combined risk assessment of everybody in that set. You will pay the price for others people 'bad driving' in your 'group'. Not very fair is it when the bandings of these groups are so broad, there is little chance of you being fairly charged for your lifestyle.

So it was good to see a recent article published by one of the leading UK car insurance experts who points out that in certain specialist car insurance sectors, individual rating of policies is becoming more important. This is particularly true in the area of UK classic car insurance where lifestyle factors such as when, where and how you use the classic car, are becoming more incorporated into the pricing of Car Insurance

Here's the original article

Classic Car Insurance - Change Your Lifestyle and Save Money
By Dave Healey

Change your lifestyle and you will be eligible to apply for all sorts of non standard specialist car insurance that is tailored to a particular genre or lifestyle group or club. The lifestyle factor is more predominant in the calculation and issuing of policies for classic cars than in any other form of specialist motor underwriting.

Classic car insurance policies are now based primarily upon usage limits and consequently tend to reflect the fact that classic cars are used differently than a normal everyday car, although the types of use social, domestic, pleasure, business and commuting, or for hire and racing, will still apply. Many a beloved classic motor will stay under wraps in the garage for many a month and is only brought out and paraded for special occasions and events.

The range, length and risk of these events will undoubtedly determine the level of price for a specialist classic car policy. Such events can be as innocuous as local classic car club meetings at predetermined destinations, fun runs, treasure hunts, vintage runs, air shows and displays, national classic rallies, film shoots, motor shows, trade shows or as extreme and heavy premium carrying as classic car racing or hill climbing.

Most specialist motor underwriters therefore appreciate that you may need a more tailored and flexible type of car insurance for a classic car, one that allows you to fit the policy around what is effectively your lifestyle risk. Your risk levels are calculated upon the way you use the classic car and the number of miles distance you cover in that car each year. These so called rating factors are adapted to play a much larger role in the calculation of a classic car insurance premium than the traditional factors that weigh heavily in standard car insurance premium calculation, such as Age or Gender.

Price has tended in the past not to be a large driver in the classic car insurance market, where quality of cover for cherished vehicles has always been seen as the primary marketing message. Underwriters have appreciated that the classic car is quite often considered as a 'baby' within the family unit and may in the past have taken advantage of the irrationality when considering price. However the introduction of many classic car insurance comparison websites on the Internet means that premium levels can no longer be ignored and that customers now rightly demand service and cover for their specialist car insurance lifestyle vagaries, at the right price.

It is now possible to obtain tailored online cover for even the most obscure car marque and the introduction of online underwriting has introduced a welcome level of competition into what had become a stagnant market. Group and affinity market buying power has also helped stimulate growth and push premium prices down through bulk buying power schemes. Whatever aspirations you may hold as a classic car owner it appears that with technology you are more increasingly likely to be judged financially by your lifestyle than its trappings that you must insure.
